The Christian Growth Study Plan
Coordinator in a Church

A Christian Growth Study Plan Coordinator position is a suggestion for every church, but it is not required for participation in the Christian Growth Study Plan. Title the position with a name that suits your church if you are not comfortable with the title Christian Growth Study Plan.

Your church's nominating committee should search for someone with administrative gifts and a passion for preparing Christians to serve. This person can be but does not need to be, the Discipleship Training director or the Church Media Ministry director.

When the Christian Growth Study Plan coordinator is elected by your church, send this person's name and address to the Christian Growth Study Plan office to be added to a mailing list. Periodically, Christian Growth Study Plan information and updates will be distributed.

The Associational Christian Growth Study Plan Coordinator may use the following duties as a guide for working with the church coordinators. This information is also a guide for maintaining associational records.

Duties

  1. Prepare a file for every adult, youth, and child in your church family who are participants in the Christian Growth Study Plan. Many churches maintain such a file for every adult, youth, and child in the church. For your files, you are encouraged, but not required, to enroll all church leaders in the leadership and skills development diploma plans related to their church-elected positions. They are enrolled in the system when they make their first course credit request. Keep addresses up-to-date, and contact the Christian Growth Study Plan office with any changes.

  2. Request your church's member list and participant transcripts. You may make this request by phone, mail, fax, email (cgspnet@lifeway.com) or the Internet. Click on "Requesting Transcripts and Reports."

  3. When received, copies of the reports should go into every participating member's file. Send a copy to the participating member. Many churches use files or notebooks to keep the reports. Label the tabs for each report.

  4. Plan an appropriate way to recognize participants when they earn diplomas.

  5. Inform the Christian Growth Study Plan office of the following:

    • Change of Church Membership--Make a copy of the "Church Member List." Beside the participant's name, write the name and address of the church to which their church letter was sent. Or email this information.

    • Deceased Participants--Write "deceased" across the name on the "Church Member List." Or email this information.

    • Duplicate Transcript/CGSP Numbers for the Same Person--Staple together a copy of the person's personal transcript and a copy of the "Church Member List." Write "Merge" on the top line. Circle the name and address preferred. Or email this information.

    • Miscellaneous Errors--Mark through the error. Write the correct information to the side. Make a copy of the corrected "Church Member List" and send it to the Christian Growth Study Plan office. Or email this information.

  6. Attend Church Leadership Team (Church Council) meetings so that you can assist the ministry leaders and members as they address the training needs of persons who teach and lead in the various ministries of your church. Orient team members to the Christian Growth Study Plan so that they can use the courses in training their leaders. They may want to sponsor Christian Growth category courses for your church family members and guests.

  7. Assist ministry leaders in promoting studies and events that use courses offered through the Christian Growth Study Plan.

  8. Provide the credit request forms for participants to fill out as they complete course requirements. Ask ministry leaders to give you the completed course credit request forms. Assist individuals who are completing courses through self-study with credit request forms. Update your files by making copies of the credit request form. Send the forms to the Christian Growth Study Plan office.
